    APSCC 2005 starts off the day with the first of the "CEO Roundtables" plenary session where the leaders, movers and shakers of the industry give first-hand predictions to delegates about the new hot spots for growth and opportunity.

For this plenary session, leaders from major global and regional satellite operators will share their insights into how satellite operators are positioning themselves for sustained profitability and steady revenues. Also, leaders will describe their strategies for facing the new environment of communications and broadcasting for today's digital lifestyles.     The space business must ensure its share of high-grade investment of capital, since the satellite insurance market has received around 50 claims arising from commissioning and in-orbit anomalies since 1997. Insurers have experienced a convergence of challenging underwriting conditions. Buyers also need to devote time and attention to understanding the technical and commercial drivers for the allocation of risks. This panel will provide strategic and creative risk management advice for various types of risks such as construction, operation, insurance, and the whole environment of financing for the deployment of satellite projects.

    The disastrous tsunami that followed the earthquake of December 26, 2004 off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, and that has caused enumerable damage in lost lives, livelihood and infrastructure, has brought to the fore the critical role of satellite communications in preventing natural disasters, as well as in coping with the ensuing emergencies and in providing for the necessary reconstruction. In this session we will cover the response of the international satellite community to last year's tsunami, as well as discuss the greater role that the industry could play in preventing and responding to such natural disasters, notably in the setting up of a Tsunami Warning System for the Indian Ocean.
