Satellite Operators CEO Roundtable |
| |
|
APSCC 2005 starts off the day with the first of the
"CEO Roundtables" plenary session where the leaders, movers
and shakers of the industry give first-hand predictions to delegates
about the new hot spots for growth and opportunity.
For this plenary session, leaders from major global and regional
satellite operators will share their insights into how satellite
operators are positioning themselves for sustained profitability
and steady revenues. Also, leaders will describe their strategies
for facing the new environment of communications and broadcasting
for today's digital lifestyles. They will address inquiries such
as: What are the prospects and opportunities for growth in the region?
What are key challenges facing satellite companies in the region?
What strategies are these CEOs using to overcome those challenges?

Panel 3: Insurance and Risk Management |
| |
|
The space business must ensure its share of high-grade
investment of capital, since the satellite insurance market has received
around 50 claims arising from commissioning and in-orbit anomalies
since 1997. Insurers have experienced a convergence of challenging
underwriting conditions. Buyers also need to devote time and attention
to understanding the technical and commercial drivers for the allocation
of risks. This panel will provide strategic and creative risk management
advice for various types of risks such as construction, operation,
insurance, and the whole environment of financing for the deployment
of satellite projects.

Session 3: Disaster Prevention & Recovery
- After the Tsunami |
| |
|
The disastrous tsunami that followed the earthquake
of December 26, 2004 off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, and that
has caused enumerable damage in lost lives, livelihood and infrastructure,
has brought to the fore the critical role of satellite communications
in preventing natural disasters, as well as in coping with the ensuing
emergencies and in providing for the necessary reconstruction. In
this session we will cover the response of the international satellite
community to last year's tsunami, as well as discuss the greater role
that the industry could play in preventing and responding to such
natural disasters, notably in the setting up of a Tsunami Warning
System for the Indian Ocean. |

Launch Services CEO Roundtable |
| |
|
Today launch service providers find themselves contending
with an industry where supply outweighs demand. Therefore, the key
issue facing the launch industry now is overcapacity. In this competitive
situation, each launcher is trying to distinguish itself from the
other in its reliability, flexibility, competitive pricing, customer
service and a proven launch record. This panel comprising the world's
top space launchers will provide a more detailed review of integrated
services to customers.

Panel 5: Content Delivery via Satellite |
| |
|
Satellite solutions enable ISPs, broadcasters, corporations
and government agencies to create a converged network that is perfect
for simultaneously delivering rich Internet content like video and
web pages to thousands of people or locations such as the network
edge. Satellite technologies offer users alternatives to terrestrial-based
services because they bypass congested Internet traffic exchange points
and curtail packet loss issues. This panel specifically analyzes the
potential for application in global content delivery service markets.

Session 5: Satellite Manufacturing &
Reliability |
| |
|
Driven by demand for new services, a limited number
of orbital slots, and competitive pressures, satellites have grown
in mass, power and complexity. Manufacturers have responded positively,
and the satellite manufacturing industry can be commended for their
technologies, which enable them to meet the capability challenge.
Nonetheless, it is also a fact that manufacturers have been hampered
by quality and reliability issues. In this session, speakers will
provide the audience with a comprehensive picture of the ongoing effort
for new technologies to ensure satellite reliability.

communities throughout the Asia-Pacific region, and broadband distance
learning by satellite is useful for bridging the digital divide. This
session will present some of the leading uses of broadband in education,
forecast how satellite broadband can be used in distance education,
identify the constraints on these visions, and identify the kind of
collaborative research that may be required between educators and
industry. Also, practical steps to building an e-business society
