2006 Satellite Conference & Exhibition

Under
the theme of ‘Satellites – Growing with
Asia’, Asia’s premier satellite event,
the 9th Asia-Pacific Satellite Communications,
Broadcasting and Space Conference and Exhibition,
APSCC 2006 Satellite Conference & Exhibition
was successfully organized in Seoul by gathering
493 participants from the satellite industry
and by providing the latest information
on the Asia-Pacific market. 196 companies
from 22 countries attended CEO Roundtables,
Panels, Sessions, the Exhibition and the
2006 APSCC Awards Ceremony.

The
3-day conference and exhibition
took off with an opening address
delivered by Dr. Eui K. Koh,
APSCC President, and was followed
by keynote addresses given by
Gwang-Ju Seo, Senior Vice President
of KT Corp., Dr. Seong-Bong
Choi, Director of COMS Office
at the Korea Aerospace Research
Institute, Peter Jackson, CEO
of AsiaSat, and Carl Marchetto,
Executive Vice President of

the Satellite Operators CEO
Roundtable, Patrick Brant, President
and CEO of Loral Skynet, Dr.
Nongluck Phinainitisart, President

Corp., and Yousuf Al Sayed,

the new opportunities and challenges

region were explored at the
Satellite Manufacturers CEO
Roundtable which was moderated
by Melissa Farrell, President
of Stellar Solutions Aerospace.

market forecast in the launch services industry
of the region was given and how each launch
services provider is suiting itself in the
industry was discussed by Jean-Yves Le Gall,
CEO of Arianespace, Wang Haibo, President
of China Great Wall Industry Corp., Kjell
Karlsen, Executive Vice President and Chief
Financial Officer of Sea Launch Company,
Thomas Carroll, Vice President of International
Launch Services, and Shigehiro Suzuki, Deputy
General Manager of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries,
at the Launch Services CEO Roundtable.
Meanwhile,
90 high-level speakers participated in the
panel discussions and sessions and covered
a variety of issues concerning the satellite
and space-related industries such as Satellite
Business Strategy, Space Applications, DTH,
DMB, Policy and Regulatory Issues, Insurance
and Risk Management, Emergency Communications
and Disaster Recovery, Broadband Applications,
Content Delivery via Satellite, Hybrid Networks,
Mobile Satellite Services, Ground Segments,
and News Services and New Technologies.

APSCC
2006 also had a time to recognize
significant contributions that
were made for the advancement
of the satellite and space community
in the Asia-Pacific region through
the 2006 APSCC Awards. At
the 2006 APSCC Awards Ceremony
held on 27 September, Peter
Jackson, CEO of AsiaSat, received
the ‘Satellite Executive of
the Year in Asia-Pacific Award’
for his contribution to the
satellite industry by demonstrating
his leadership in satellite
operation and setting a vision
for the satellite industry of
the region.

In
the meantime, APSCC awarded
Dr. Keiji Tachikwaka, President
of Japan Aerospace Exploration
Agency (JAXA), the ‘Lifetime
Achievement Award’ to recognize
his outstanding achievements
in enhancing the satellite industry
and taking the lead in JAXA
to support the disaster recovery
efforts in Asian nations through
its constellation of satellites.

events that were held during the event.

At
the 2006 APSCC Council and Plenary
Meeting held on 27 September,
APSCC’s business and membership
status were reported and reviewed.
Also,
a provision of the APSCC Constitution
on the number of Board of Directors
was amended to increase its
number of Board of Directors
from 10 to 12. Dr. Nongluck
Phinainitisart, President of
Shin Satellite PCL, was elected
as the new President of APSCC
for the term 2007-2008.

For
APSCC 2007, the event will be held outside
of Korea from 18 to 20 September 2007. Once
again, this annual event of APSCC is expected
to be a forum for senior executives to connect
with each other and gain business opportunities
through the first-rate panel discussions
and educational sessions.
