APSCC 2007 Satellite Conference & Exhibition

18-20 September 2007, Millennium Hilton, Bangkok, Thailand

Under the theme of ‘Asia – Ready for Challenge’, Asia’s premier satellite event, the 10th Asia-Pacific Satellite Communications, Broadcasting and Space Conference and Exhibition, APSCC 2007 Satellite Conference & Exhibition was successfully organized in Bangkok by gathering 342 participants from the satellite industry and by providing the latest information on the Asia-Pacific market. 157 companies from 25 countries attended CEO Roundtables, Panels, Sessions, the Exhibition and the 2007 APSCC Awards Ceremony.

With the opening address delivered by Dr. Nongluck Phinainitisart, APSCC President, the 3-day conference and exhibition was opened and followed by Welcome Address by Mr. Sue Lo-Uthai, Deputy Permanent Secretary and Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Thailand. Also, Dr. Dumrong Kasemset, Chairman, Shin Satellite Public Company Ltd., Thailand delivered his keynote presentation on the Opportunities and Challenges for the Asia-Pacific Satellite Industry.

The growing market for new and replacement satellites as well as to the increasing demands on capability and reliability was discussed in Satellite Manufacturers Roundtable which was moderated by Melissa Farrell, President of Stellar Solutions Aerospace. Michael Caulfield, Vice President, Business Development, Boeing Satellite Systems International, Inc., Dr. Ali Atia, Senior Vice President, Strategic Technology Development, Orbital Sciences Corp., Olivier Badard, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Thales Alenia Space, Anthony J. Colucci, Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Space Systems/Loral, Christian Pietrowski, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, EADS Astrium discussed the suggestions for upgrading the existing products to make them more attractive to the customers.

In the Launch Services CEO Roundtable moderated by Len Dest, Founder and Managing Director, Duckwood Advisors, Jean-Yves Le Gall, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Arianespace, Frank McKenna, President, International Launch Services, Kjell Karlsen, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Sea Launch Company, Chongzhi Hua, Vice President, China Great Wall Industry Corp., Shigehiro Suzuki, Assistant General Manager, Space Systems Dept., Mitsubishi Heavy Industries discussed on the integrated launch services to customers.

innovations as well as new demands that service providers are facing in the DTH Services Roundtable, moderated by Pacome Revillon, Managing Director of Euroconsult.

During Satellite Financing Roundtable presented by Euroconsult and moderated by Stephane Chenard, Senior Consultant of Euroconsult, Eric Chan, Co-Chief Investment Officer, Buena Vista Fund Management, Hong, Yoichi Iizuka, Director of the Board, Senior Executive Managing Officer, JSAT Corp., Wim Steenbakkers, Director, Structure Finance Telecom & Media, ING Wholesale Banking, Peter Jackson, CEO of AsiaSat, offered their views of financing options and next steps in the financing of satellite operators in Asia.

Meanwhile, 90 high-level speakers participated in the panel discussions and sessions and covered a variety of issues concerning the satellite and space-related industries such as Asian Satellite Market Business Strategy, Space Applications, Ground Systems, Mobile Satellite Services, Policy and Regulatory Issues, Insurance and Risk Management, Disaster Recovery, Broadband Applications, Hybrid Wireless Networks, and News Services and New Technologies.

To recognize significant contributions that were made for the advancement of the satellite and space community in the Asia-Pacific region, the 2007 APSCC Awards was also held on 19 September 2007. Dr. Dumrong Kasemset, Chairman of Shin Satellite Plc, received the ‘Satellite Executive of the Year in Asia-Pacific Award’ for his contribution to the satellite industry by demonstrating his leadership in satellite operation and setting a vision for the satellite industry of the region. In the meantime, APSCC awarded Jean-Yves Le Gall, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Arianespace, the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ to recognize his outstanding achievements in enhancing the satellite launch industry through the pioneering efforts in developing space programs and the implementation of international cooperation in the industry.

At the exhibition, GMV, High Gain Antenna, Integral Systems, ISS Corporation, Orbital, Shin Broadband Internet, Shin Satellite Plc, Thales Alenia Space, Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company, displayed their new products and demonstrated their latest services and solutions.

As a post-event program, APSCC conducted APSCC Golf Tournament at Alpine Golf Club and Sightseeing Tour for Grand Palace and Klong on 21 September 2007.
