| APSCC Conference at a Glance
The 7th Asia-Pacific Satellite Conference and Exhibition, APSCC
2004 Satellite Conference & Exhibition was held in Seoul, Korea.
The APSCC successfully organized APSCC 2004, attracting 254 executives
in 112 companies and organizations from all around the world. With
high-level and broad participants of satellite related industries,
APSCC 2004 created a globally integrated platform and provided participants
with networking opportunities for representatives.
APSCC 2004 was opened by Dr. Eui K. Koh, President of the APSCC
and followed welcome address delivered by Mr. Yong-Seob Shin, Director
General of Radio and Broadcasting Policy Bureau, Ministry of Information
and Communication, Korea.
| After the Opening Session, was followed Satellite
Operators CEO Roundtable led by Mr. David Bross, Associate Publisher
of Access Intelligence with participation of Mr. Adi Adiwoso,
PSN & ACeS, Mr. Richard Butler, WorldSpace Asia, Dr. Nongluck
Phinaitisart of Shin Satellite PLC, Mr. Masashi Suenaga of Mobile
Broadcasting Corp., Dr. Hiroshi Kimura of Space Communications
Corp., and Dr. Seong-Joong Kim of KT Corp. Leaders of satellite
industry expressed industrial views facing the new environment
and interacted with each other and with the audience on some
key strategies and initiatives facing the satellite industries
in the Asia-Pacific. |

Also, the leaders of satellite manufacturers such as Space Systems/Loral,
Alcatel Space, Lockheed Martin Commercial Satellite Services and
Orbital Science Corporation participated in Satellite Manufacturers
Roundtable and discussed their strategies to upgrade their existing
products to make them more attractive to customers.
APSCC 2004 specially featured Panel on Satellite Strategy in Asia
Pacific. In this panel discussion, the high-level panels from AsiaSat,
Eutelsat, PanAmSat, New Skies, Loral Skynet, RSCC and Thuraya Satellite
actively debated on the new development approached to survive in
an increasingly competitive market and expressed their merits and
positioning of satellite services.
In addition, this two-day event included a special session for
Communication, Oceanography and Meteorology Satellite (COMS) program,
led by the Korean Consortium for multi-purpose satellite to be launched
in 2008, and sessions for DTH Services, DMB Services, Satellite
Broadband Services, New Satellite Technologies and more panels on
Regulatory Issues, Launch Services, and Space Application Services.
2004 APSCC Award Ceremony was held in conjunction with APSCC 2004
during the Welcome Dinner sponsored by International Launch Services
on 3 September 2004. APSCC Award was established to recognize the
achievements and contributions of satellite executive of the Asia
Pacific. The first award was presented to Mr. Shin-Bae Kim of SK
Telecom and Mr. Tetsuya Mizoguchi of Mobile Broadcasting Corporation,
co-leaders of world's first DMB satellite project from Korea and
Japan. Also, the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Mr.
Zhang Qingwei, President of China Aerospace Science and Technology
Corporation to memorize his achievements.
On 4 September 2004, at the Joint Meeting of the 8th Session of
Council Meeting and the 6th Session of Plenary Meeting, Dr. Eui
K. Koh, current President of the APSCC was re-elected unanimously
for the next two-year term.
