Strategy in the Asia Pacific |
The requirements of satellite services change constantly and their
flexibility and versatility are key aspects of satellite network
systems. Satellite services continue to suffer from competition
with fiber optic networks. In this environment of abundant capacity,
operators are searching for new development approaches to survive
in an increasingly competitive market. In this panel, the merits
and positioning of satellite services will be demonstrated and debated.

In the Asia-Pacific, satellite communication is an essential tool
for the construction of information infrastructure. A wide variety
of satellite services have been implemented, and satellites will
be widely used. In order to facilitate satellite utilization, the
regulatory provisions of each country should been reviewed for the
benefit of open systems through free competition in all services.
In the panel, the possible regulatory and policy options and models
facilitating satellite services will be examined to overcome obstacles.

Session 1: DTH - Present and Future in Asia
As with America and Europe, the Asia-Pacific is a hotbed for DTH services
in recent years as the cost of channel uplink and satellite distribution
has declined with the introduction of digital technologies. The reduced
barriers for service have allowed many new networks to launch in this
region. The session will discuss a variety of issues relating to digital
broadcasting and multimedia broadcasting services and applications
by satellite, with particular emphasis on those relevant to the Asia-Pacific
region to providing an overview of the Asia-Pacific market, the prospects
of satellite broadcasting services growth, and an analysis of satellite
broadcasting service development and applications.

Panel 3: Launch Services |
Today launch service providers find themselves contending with an
industry where supply outweighs demand. The key issue facing the launch
industry now is overcapacity since there are expected to be between
40 and 60 launches per year worldwide for the next decade, while the
available capacity is from 100 to 150 launches per year. In this competitive
situation, each launcher is trying to distinguish itself from the
other in its reliability, flexibility, competitive pricing, customer
service and a proven launch record. This panel comprising the world's
top space launchers will provide a more detailed review of integrated
services to customers.
